It is the year 2009. Shawnee Jackson is at the peak of her career, is madly in love with her fiancé, and is seemingly on her way to achieving the American Dream....when suddenly, life as she has painted, becomes too much to handle. Maryland, Shawnee's biological mother (and ex-drug addict), walks back into her life after seeking forgiveness--but, as far as Shawnee is concerned, there is no room for such an act. In her world, Maryland no longer exists.

At the age of 26, Maryland had Shawnee and her eight-year-old brother permanently taken away after she was arrested for illegal drug-use. Now, Maryland (who has been in recovery for six months) is praying that God redeem the time, and the two people in the world that loved her most, will still hold a place for her in their hearts.
